the Dogs
Meet the pointing labs that power every Northern Michigan upland and waterfowl hunt.
ACE
Ace is the pinnacle of our guiding and breeding operation! He is a stunning male representation of the breed standard and has all of the brains, drive and manners to go with it. This dog is an absolute force in the grouse woods and is always the first out of the box. Ace hunts close and steady and approaches a grouse covert like a surgeon does the human anatomy. Doubling as a fantastic waterfowl dog, a day spent hunting with Ace is worth every penny spent on your hunt.

Joey
Known as Aunty Jo around the kennel, Joey has never met a stranger. A client favorite and often requested by repeat customers, Joey is a slow and close hunter with a staunch point and great tracking instinct. She is mother goose of our kennel and always sees that our board and train guests feel right at home. This dog is also no stranger to a duck blind and will deliver your plump greenhead to hand with smile in any condition. Every hunt with Joey starts with her yipping and spinning with excitement until she’s given the go ahead to find her bird!
Phoenix
Phoenix is bubbling over with drive and the desire to please. He is a fun and exciting dog to hunt with. This animal goes one hundred miles an hour until he finds scent, then it’s all business. As the youngest dog on our guide string at three years old, we are very excited to see how much further he develops as a versatile hunting guide dog. In the duck blind, Phoenix has an explosive water entry and a gentlemanly to-hand delivery. Keep an eye out for him on the hunt test circuit.

Haley
“Small but mighty” just about sums up this dog perfectly. Haley is a petite 45 lbs, but don’t tell her that! Haley joined our kennel on a breeding contract in the fall of 2025 after making the trip to Michigan a couple times to chase grouse around the Northwoods with her previous owners from Dogworks Kennel near Rochester, NY. In her first week with us our clients successfully harvested seven different species of Michigan game birds over Haley. Also a great momma to all her pups, Haley has been a wonderful addition to our kennel.
Anna
Anna is currently our top prospect. Whelped in October of 2025, she is in the beginning stages of our training program and has been progressing extremely well. Anna shows a strong natural pointing instinct and has a fearless approach to life while
remaining sweet and collected. When she comes of ages and receives her health clearances and genetic testing, Anna will be paired with Ace to produce our next generation of guide dogs. Watch for miss Anna on the hunt test circuit and to soon be making appearances in the grouse coverts and waterfowl habitats across Northern
Michigan.

Why pointing labs?
NOMI Guide Services is built around a small kennel of hard‑charging, steady pointing labs specifically suited to Northern Michigan’s rugged woods, thick cover, and cold water. Their natural pointing ability locks birds in place in dense grouse and woodcock habitat, while their strong retrieving drive and dense coats make them reliable on late‑season waterfowl in frigid conditions. Calm, controlled in close quarters, yet powerful on long retrieves, these dogs are tailor‑made for our local terrain.

“I’ve chased birds for decades, and these labs are the most disciplined, birdy, and personable guide dogs I’ve ever hunted with.”
